Eek!! I’m so excited about a fresh new look for my hair. I also thought this would be a great time to share my hair care routine as well as some of my favorite tips and tricks to keep your hair looking gorgeous.

New Hair

I came across a super cute local salon called Bloom Collaborative and noticed that a few of my friends went there so I decided to give it a try. I first did a haircut just to get a feel for the salon and stylist. After my cut I was very impressed so I went ahead and booked a color. I very rarely get my hair colored but I felt like it was time to change it up a bit.

Alright, let’s get on with how we achieved this beautiful color. First, I shared some inspo pictures (which consisted of a lot of variations of a blonde balayage) with my amazing stylist, Emily. Then we decided on doing a partial highlight/balayage. She started with throwing in some foils to start lightening up my hair. After letting that sit for a while we went over to the shampoo bowel to start the toning process. Then did the wash with shampoo and conditioner. She finished it off with a beautiful blow out and style. I couldn’t be happier with the results. It’s a beautiful change but still feels very me.

Current Hair Care Routine

Now let’s talk current hair care routine – this starts with washing every other day. This is something I started doing just about a year ago after strictly washing my hair every single night. I think it’s definitely made a difference with how dry my hair is and has improved split ends and breakage. I try to do a hair mask 1-2 times a week and always use leave-in conditioner after washing it. Most days I have to wear my hair up for work and I usually only use heat on my hair once a week typically on the weekends.

The Products I’ve Been Loving Lately

I’ve been IN LOVE with Olaplex products lately. I know their products are definitely on the pricey side but I’ve added one product here and there over time and I have no regrets about it. You can start out with just the shampoo and conditioner and then I would recommend adding the hair mask and leave-in conditioner next. The bonding oil is another favorite of mine because it is also a heat protectant. The only one I haven’t tried yet is the first one but it’s on my list.

Their products work on a molecular level and are known as bond builders. They help to build up the strength and elasticity of your hair. The products are known for working on most hair types to not only give you beautiful, shiny, and soft hair but to improve the overall health of your hair.

My Hair Care Tips and Tricks

Now, keep in mind I’m no expert when it comes to the health of your hair but I have incorporated a lot of great tricks into my routine that I feel have really helped my hair grow healthy and strong. I’ve also learned a lot from those who are experts in the field so I’ll share all that I’ve learned and what has worked great for me:

  • Washing your hair every other day or less often if you can. This is something I started doing a year ago where prior I was washing every day and I feel like it’s made such a huge difference with how dry my hair was.
  • Thoroughly brushing your hair before washing it. This is something I’ve done for a while now and I feel like it’s a good practice to get into so your shampoo and conditioner doesn’t get caught up or build up in parts of your hair that are tangled or knotted.
  • Air drying! I honestly couldn’t tell you the last time I blow dried my hair. I know this isn’t realistic for everyone but give your hair at least one or two days a week where you let it air dry. I always shower at night and let my hair air dry before bed.
  • Using a leave-in conditioner. This is something that has helped my dry hair immensely. I typically put it in after I wash my hair and then let it air dry.
  • Finding a great hair mask. As I talked about before I’ve been using the Olaplex products and their hair mask is amazing. It has raved reviews and I think it lives up to the hype. I’m excited to see how it works on my now colored hair!
  • Use heat protectant. This is a must for styling with any heat even if you don’t use heat that often.
  • Do NOT use hair (or skin products for that matter) products bought at places like TJ Maxx or Marshalls. Now I love these stores for clothes and home decor however their hair products tend to be either expired or watered down products.
  • Try out different stylists or salon with a hair cut to find the best fit for you. This is something I’ve done over the last year and I’m glad I tried them out with just a haircut before committing to doing a color. I had a bad experience at a different salon so I continued my search for a great salon and stylist and I’m so happy to have found one that I love.

As you can see I’m super excited about my new hair change and what I’ve been loving to care for my hair. What are your favorite hair care tips? Are you planning on trying out a new color or style soon? Let me know in the comments below!

xoxo,
